Despite the wet weather, the on-site meeting today went well with Luke, the Sehez supervisor, and James, the Sehez project manager. These meetings we find are always productive, as we can see the progress of the build as well.
We are waiting for the rain to stop for brief moments so as the scaffolders can remove the scaffolding system.

As you can see from the above photo, another new exciting change is that sheeting was being installed at the time of the meeting. One point of note is the horizontal window that will form the splash-back of the kitchen. This is a neat touch we have designed into the kitchen so it allows natural light to fill this space.

As with all our developments, we are meticulous in detail during the design stage and we go over all of our plans with a fine tooth comb. However, even still, there can be unexpected problems that only pop up during construction. It is during these on-site meetings, we find most effective when discussing the potential solutions when these problems arise.
One example of this is the door separating the living space from the garage. The original plan was to install a swinging door into the hallway into the garage, but this led to the problem with the way the steps leading to the garage were to be built. This was only realised during construction. The solution to this was to build a sliding door instead of a swinging door. This clever solution not only solved the problem of the stairway, but also created more space in the garage as it stops the need to have an arc of space required by a swinging door.
The doorway to the left of the above photo, is a smart under-stairway storage area that is accessed through the garage.

As we move upstairs, we are greeted by the view of autumn colours. The set of stairs is yet to be built, but this window is another design element from ELK architects to flood the stairway with natural light.
Lastly, I wanted to display, through the small gallery above, some of the architect's external design elements and also the clever mix of contrasting materials to create this modern appearance and feel.
